ABOUT

Canadian Folk Music and Music Nova Scotia Awards nominee Amelia Parker is a traditional musician, specializing in fiddle and violin. Described as a “fiddling phenom,” she’s earned champion titles throughout Canada, the United States, and Scotland and represented Nova Scotia at the Canadian Grand Masters and U.S. National Scottish Fiddle Championship. She’s released two albums, Intertwined (2019) and Forwards (2023), and has over a decade of performance experience from across the country.

ABOUT THE
MUSIC

Amelia’s music draws from over five centuries of traditional folk tunes. Her albums and performances showcase a mixture of Old Time, Celtic, Quebecois, Americana, and Scottish fiddle songs, bringing older styles alive. While her debut album Intertwined explores this style variety, her newest album Forwards focuses on sets and tunes she’s played at local shows as a reminder of home.

RECORDINGS

Intertwined (2019)

Recorded at the Wee House of Music when Amelia was only 13, Intertwined garners its name from its showcase of a variety of fiddle styles and techniques that influence Amelia’s repertoire. The songs encompass a range of Canadian, American, and Scottish styles weaved together with familiar tunes, with accompaniment from Kimberly and Skip Holmes, Ray Stewart, Julie Johnston, Bruce Pettipas, and Dave Gunning.

Forwards (2023)

Forwards, Amelia’s sophomore album, represents her transition from rural Nova Scotia to urban university life through sets often played at her local shows. Created as a permanent memory of her youth as she moves forwards, the album features a mixture of traditional and modern tunes with accompaniment from Kimberly and Skip Holmes, Troy MacGillivray, Sandra DeCoste, Ray Stewart, and Dave Gunning. Forwards received nominations for Traditional Recording of the Year (Music NS), and Young Performer of the Year (Canadian Folk Music Awards).
